OU Baseball — Advance

McALESTER — The last time Oklahoma played at L. Dale Mitchell Park, its coach, Sunny Golloway, thought his club had made a major progression. It had finally played an error-free game in an 11-1 run-rule romp over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

“I think we made a move today. We’ll see how this carries over,” he said.

Golloway said that before the Sooners went on the road and won three straight over Iowa, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and New Mexico in last weekend’s Kleberg Bank College Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas. Those wins lifted OU to 9-0. It is one of only 13 teams in Division I college baseball that are still undefeated.

The Sooners will put that undefeated mark on the line today when they open a three-game series with Pepperdine (6-3) at 3 p.m. at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

The series will represent another step the Sooners need to make. The Waves took two of three from OU last season in Malibu, Calif. That season-opening series loss took the Sooners a while to recover from.

The next three games are also the first of a seven-game stretch OU will play over the next 10 days, and only those three are at home.

The momentum the Sooners have accrued will be on the line.
