Haileyville man accused of burglary

McALESTER — A Haileyville man is accused of burglary after allegedly breaking into a woman’s home to take a nap.

Riley Ernest Tucker, 53, was charged Feb. 20 in Pittsburg County District court with one felony count of first degree burglary and one misdemeanor count of malicious injury to property valued less than $1,000.

According to court records, Tucker allegedly came up to the back door of a woman’s home on Ryan Street in Haileyville. When the woman refused to let him in after his insistence, he allegedly “smashed through the door,” a police affidavit states.

When police arrived on the scene, the woman was “frantic,” and pointed police towards a back room. “Upon entering the home I noticed the back door glass had been busted out and glass was all over the floor,” Haileyville police officer William Smith stated in the affidavit. “I went to the back room and found Mr. Riley Tucker crawling into a closet and saying he just needed to lay down.”

The woman told police “she did not know Riley Tucker and that he just came up to the door insisting that he had to come inside,” the affidavit states. Tucker was arrested and is being held at the Pittsburg County jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond. He was unavailable for comment at presstime.

He is due back in court Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. If convicted, he is facing up to 20 years in prison.
