Verna E. Irwin, 92, of Hartshorne, died Saturday Feb. 9, 2013, at Beare Manor.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elmwood Cemetery Pavilion. Phil Lay will officiate. Interment will follow.
Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne.
Verna Irwin was born on Dec. 17, 1920 in Tulsa to Charley B. and Easter Viola (Fergerson) Favors. Verna grew up in the Red Oak area and married Aurby L. Irwin on Feb. 14, 1942 in Wayneville, Mo. The settled in the Cambria area until 1952 when they came to Hartshorne. Verna had worked at Henley’s Drug Store and at Long’s Cash and Carry, both in Hartshorne. She enjoyed gardening and canning. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family. She was the oldest member of the Hartshorne American Legion Post 180 Ladies Auxiliary. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, James Archie Irwin of Paris, Texas, Jimmie Lee and Liz Irwin of Detroit, Texas and Thomas Gene and Nola Irwin of Hartshorne; grandchildren, Michael Irwin and Janet of Toledo, Ohio, Shawn and Keith Jackson of Paris, Texas, Steven Irwin of Paris, Texas, Jami and Steve Slezack of Arlington, Texas, Amy and DeWayne Tucker of Paris, Texas,
Cari Reynolds and Gary of Detroit, Texas, Tobe Irwin of Hartshorne, Jeff Irwin and Brenda of Hartshorne and Randy Irwin and Crystal of Hartshorne; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Pauline Honea of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Arlene Favors of Poteau and Judy Blankenship of Paris, Texas; special friend Pat Kelley of McAlester and numerous nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Aurby Irwin; and a daughter-in-law, June Bug Irwin.
Honorary pallbearers are the staff of Beare Manor Nursing Home in Hartshorne.
In leiu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
