A filing period opens today

McALESTER — A filing period opens today for candidates wanting to file for office in seven cities and towns in Pittsburg County.

Filing for municipal offices will be open in Alderson, Haileyville, Hartshorne, Kiowa, Krebs, Quinton and Savanna. The three-day filing period will extend from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. today through Wednesday at the Pittsburg County Election Board Office at 109 E. Carl Albert Parkway, Room 101. An election to decide the offices is set for April 2, said Pittsburg County Election Board Secretary Cathy Thornton.

Seats which are up for election and the municipalities in which they are open are:

• Alderson — Town trustee board seats in Wards 1 and 3, as well as the town clerk’s position are open for candidate filings.

• Haileyville — A total of six city council seats are open for candidate filings.

City councils seats up for election include those in Ward 1A, Ward 2A, Ward 3A and Ward 4A, along with council seats open for unexpired terms in Ward 1B and Ward 2B. Also in Haileyville, the position of city clerk/treasurer is open for an unexpired term.

• Hartshorne — Four city council seats are up for election in Hartshorne. Seats up for election include the Ward 1, Ward 2 and Ward 4 council seats. Also, the Ward 3 seat on the Hartshorne City Council is open for an unexpired term. Also Ward 3 has a seat for a regular four-year term. Also in Harthsorne, the city treasurer position is up for election.

• Kiowa — A total of four seats on the town trustee board are open for filing. Offices up for election include trustee board seats in Ward 1, Ward 3 and Ward 5. The town trustee board seat in Ward 4 is open for an unexpired term. In addition, the position of town clerk is up for election and the town treasurer’s office is open for an unexpired term.

• Krebs — Krebs City Council seats in Ward 2 and Ward 4 are up for election. Also in Krebs, the position of city clerk/treasurer is up for election as well.

• Quinton —Two seats on the Quinton Trustee Board are up for election. The positions are not connected to any particular wards, since the ballots for the seats are cast at-large among registered voters in Quinton. Also in Quinton, the position of town clerk/treasurer is up for election.

• Savanna — Two positions are up for election in Savanna, the Ward 2 seat on the town trustee board and the position of town treasurer. Anyone needing more information can contact the Pittsburg County Election Board office at 918-423-3877.
