Lovera’s cheese shop, of Krebs, recently attended American Cheese Society Conference and Competition for the first time and they brought home Second Place.
In Raleigh, N. C. Aug. 1 - 4, the ACS held their 29th national conference and competition, Lovera’s Cheesemaker Shawn Duffy said.
Lovera’s proudly won Second place in the Pasta Filata Category (stretched curd category) with their Cacioccaver.
There were 1711 entries in the overall competition from across the U.S.
He said he does not know how many entries there were in his category. However, he said, the cheese is judge on a set criteria for that specific type of cheese.
Duffy has been making cheese for his father-in-law, Sam Lovera, for five years.
Duffy said the event was not only rewarding, but it was a great networking opportunity.
Duffy said Lovera’s is gearing up to repressent the Italian culture for Culture Fest that is going on downtown Choctaw Avenue Saturday.
He said they will be serving Italian sandwiches.
