McALESTER —
Mid Saturday morning, McAlester Fire Department and Police responded to a fire alarm and reports of smoke at Fat Boy’s, formerly occupied as Carla’s Cafe, at the Sun City building — the cause is still unknown.
Lt. Benny Brooks with the McAlester Fire Department said when firefighters arrived there was smoke coming from what appeared to be the back side of the building’s roof over the part to be Fat Boy’s.
Sun City Cleaners employees Amanda Jefferies and “sidekick” Marsha Long said they were working and had no idea there were fire trucks outside until a firefighter came in and asked them to evacuate the building.
“We heard a strange alarm,” Jefferies said. “Not like the regular alarm.”
Both, Jefferies and Long said they did not see smoke for themselves, but was told by fireman that smoke had been seen from the Fat Boy’s portion of the building.
