Historical Society slates History of McAlester Funeral Homes presentation

McALESTER — Larry Bishop will give a presentation on the History of the McAlester Funeral Homes at the March meeting of the Pittsburg County Genealogical and Historical Society.

The meeting will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the society’s library at 113 East Carl Albert Parkway, McAlester.

Funeral home records are an important source of genealogical information.

The Society’s library has approximately 40,000 funeral home records spanning seven decades.

The earliest records date back to statehood.

The meeting is open to all interested in local history and genealogy.

The Pittsburg County Genealogical and Historical Society is an all volunteer non-profit organizations that collects, index and makes local data and history available. It has numerous records that are not available on the Internet.

The society’s library is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.
