National church’s supt. to speak in McAlester

McALESTER — The Assemblies of God General Superintendent from Springfield, Mo., Dr. George O. Wood, will speak at the First Assembly of God Church at 1800 Hardy Springs Road, McAlester, on Palm Sunday, March 24.

Wood is the son of missionary parents to China and Tibet. He holds a Doctorate in pastoral theology from Pasenda, Calif., and a Juris Doctorate from WSU College of Law in Fullerton, Calif.

He did under graduate work at Evangel University in Springfield, Mo. He served the college in several capacities and was ordained by the Southern Missiouri District in 1967.

According to a press release from the Assemblies of God, Wood is the author of a number of books including: “Road Trip Leadership,” “Living in the Spirit,” “A Psalm in Your Heart,” “Living Fully,” “The Sucessful Life,” and a college text on “The Book of Acts.” As general superintendent of the Assemblies of God in the U.S., part of the largest Penecostal denomination in the world, he is a member of the denomination’s Executive Leadership Team and Executive Presbytery.

The church has more than 12,700 congregations in the U.S. with 3 million members and adherents — in the world, it is more than 65 million, according to the press release.
