Caring Hands Healthcare Center welcomes new CEO

McALESTER — Caring Hands Health Care Center has a new Chief Executive Officer.

McAlester resident Louis Smitherman said he accepted the position in January.

Caring Hands Health Care Clinic charges patients on a sliding scale based on income, the clinic has two locations at 1558 S Main St. in McAlester and at 11 Lehigh Ave. in Hartshorne.

“I’m really happy to be a part of Caring Hands,” Smitherman said.

He said he replaced former CEO Sheila Means who left the position in October.

Smitherman a former McAlester city councilman, said he was previously  employed as a former city manager for the cities of Healdton and Spencer and he worked for 22 years as a facilities manager for the Choctaw Nation.

He lives in McAlester with his wife Marilyn and the couple have four grown children.

He said is enjoying working with his administration and with patients at the clinic.

The new CEO said his goals for the new year will be adding to his medical staff and focusing on patient education such as in prenatal care, tobacco usage and high blood pressure.

“We want to focus on educating our patients and following up with thier care so we can help them get well and stay well,” Smitherman said.
