Wilburton man receives prison sentence for federal explosives conviction

McALESTER — A Wilburton man was recently sentenced to serve nearly three years in federal prison for an explosives conviction.

Arthur David Upton, 51, was sentenced to 34 months imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of explosives.

“Charges arose from an investigation by the Pushmataha County Sheriff’s Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms,” according to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Upton was indicted in August and pleaded guilty in September.

According tot he indictment, Upton distributed explosive materials without a license on July 17. Representing the United States was U.S. Attorney Edward Snow and District Judge Ronald A. White presided over the hearing in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Muskogee.

According to the press release, Upton will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service pending transportation to the designated federal prison at which he will serve his nonparolable sentence.

Lions Club Proclamation

McAlester Lions Club will celebrate its 95th year anniversary with a proclamation Tuesday.
