Bank to open in Kiowa

McALESTER — For the first time in more than 80 years the town of Kiowa will have a bank, according to town officials.

“We are pretty sure we haven’t had a bank since 1932,” said JoMae Peck, clerk for the Town of Kiowa.

A groundbreaking ceremony for FirstBank is set Friday at 3 p.m. at U.S. Highway 69 and First Street in Kiowa, according to Jessica Clayton, marketing director for the bank which has its headquarters in Antlers.

Clayton said although no firm date has been set for the grand opening, the land is being cleared and a full-service mobile branch will soon be placed on the site until the building is complete.

Although no date has been set yet, as to when the permanent branch will be started, the mobile branch will be soon.

“It depends on the weather, but we are looking at early spring for the opening,” she said.

The mobile branch will be full-service, according to Clayton.

“The mobile unit will be a full service bank with a drive-through and a loan officer will be also available,” she said.

The Kiowa location of FirstBank will be the fifth for the bank including. Locations are also open in Atoka, Antlers, Coalgate and Hugo, according to Clayton.

Bank officials will be looking for local residents to fill positions at the bank.

“We are looking for people who know the community,” Clayton said.

“We are excited to be in Kiowa.”
