McALESTER —
A local police chief says the new 911 system not working.
“Folks can’t get service,” said Kiowa Police Chief Tony Runyon.
Runyon told members of the Local Emergency Planning Committee that when his fire chief called 911 from the scene of man crushed by a bull he was told there was no ambulance available.
Several community members attended the LEPC meeting on Wednesday at the Southeast Expo Center.
“The 911 dispatch is not good in this county,” Runyon said.
“Saturday night a bull rolled over a man at the Pittsburg rodeo and we had to have an ambulance come from Atoka County” he said. He said the dispatch was not contacting him when a call comes for his area. “We need to have this addressed.
He said problems with incoming emergency calls need to be addressed. “In the past the Sheriff department would contact us now with the 911 system, it’s not getting to us,” Runyon said.
Another LEPC member said she agreed with Runyon.
“The same thing happend in Quinton,” said Rachel Franklin of the Medical Emergency Response Center.
