A McAlester man was charged Friday in relation to an apparent crime spree he allegedly committed last Thursday, according to authorities.
On Friday, Scott Douglas Reed, 31, of McAlester was arrested and charged in Pittsburg County District Court with knowingly concealing stolen property and larceny of controlled substances, as well as second degree burglary, larceny and other charges related to a third case, according to court records. All of the incidents allegedly occurred last Thursday.
McAlester Police Det. Capt. Gary Wansick said the incidents allegedly started at the Affordable Furniture store at 38 E. Cherokee Ave. Reed allegedly went to the Aldridge Senior Apartments and allegedly stole Zanex and Prozac from a resident there. Then, he is accused of going to a McAlester home on South Shady Drive and allegedly committing another crime.
According to court records, Reed allegedly broke into the South Shady Drive home through the back door and took several items “with the intent to commit larceny.”
On Thursday the police were investigating a furniture store break-in after the owners came to work on Thursday morning to find the front window broken and two laptops, an iPod and an iPad missing.
Wansick said the furniture store burglary occurred either early last Thursday morning or late last Wednesday night when a metal pipe was used to break a large glass window to access the store.
“An iPad and two laptops that were reported stolen were found with the suspect,” Wansick said.
According to court records, Reed was charged with felony second degree burglary, two felony counts of larceny of a controlled dangerous substance and three felony counts of concealing stolen property. He was also charged with
misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and is being held at the Pittsburg County Jail on a total $20,000 bond.
If convicted, Reed could face up to 38 years in prison and $2,500 in fines, according to court records.
Reed could not be contacted by presstime Tuesday.
