Pittsburg County court schedules three felony trials

McALESTER — The Pittsburg County District Court scheduled three felony trials in January.

After completing a sounding of the docket on Friday, three felony case trials were set.

Michael D. Helem, 53, of McAlester, is set to go to trial Jan. 15 to face felony charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury. He is also facing misdemeanor charges of driving with a canceled, suspended or revoked license and failure to keep right. The trial is expected to span over a two-day period and District 18 Judge Thomas Bartheld is presiding over court proceedings.

Billy Jack Russell, 39, of Eufaula, is set to go to trial Jan. 17 for one felony count of child abuse by injury. The trial is expected to last two days and Bartheld is presiding over the trial.

James Ruben Williams, 45, of McAlester, is set to go to trial Jan. 23 for one felony count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance (cocaine base) and one misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. The trial is expected to last two days and Bartheld is presiding over court proceedings.
