McALESTER — Even before the powerlifting season started, coach Bryan Pratt predicted that his son Caden Pratt would win a state title in the 132-pound class. And Caden in turn approached the entire season unwilling to settle for anything less.
Luckily, Caden didn’t have to.
Pratt won the 132-pound weight class and took home a slew of other awards, helping McAlester finish first among 5A schools and fourth overall at the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association Large School State Powerlifting Meet on Friday at McLoud High School.
McAlester had not won a state powerlifting title since 2007. Midwest City won the overall 2013 large-school title, followed by Blanchard.
In Saturday's Small School State Powerlifting Meet at McLoud, Hartshorne's Dylan Pingleton lifted 1,170 pounds in the 198-pound class to finish fifth overall. Dalls Herring finished sixth overall in the 168-pound class with 1,100 pounds, but his 305-pound benchpress earned him Outstanding Lightweight Bencher.
