Buffs track starts Friday

McALESTER — McAlester rounds out its spring sports offerings with track, and the Buffs’ racing season gets underway on Friday at Glenpool at 10 a.m. The Lady Buffs are coming off a strong 2012 season, winning their region, qualifying 12 girls for the state meet and finishing eighth out of 36 teams.

Junior Casey Jones competed in four events at State last year, finishing fourth in the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and 4x100 relay. She also was part of the 4x400 relay, and this season should continue as one of the main scorers for the Lady Buffs.

“She’s had back problems, but she’s been o.k.,” 20-year Buffs track coach Richard Carney said of Jones. “She hasn’t complained about it so far this year, so hopefully we keep her together.”

With Buffs, only one returning racer qualified for State last year: Zach Skimbo, in the high jump. With a full year of training, Skimbo is expected to contribute even more this season.
