Commissioners hear about new air ambulance services

McALESTER — New Air ambulance services, provided to county workers at a cost of nearly $50,000 as a paid benefit, will be the same or better as the previous provider, according to the director for Eagle Med air ambulance service.

During Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Pittsburg County Commissioners, Patrick Barkley regional director for Eagle Med, the new air ambulance service contracted to replace Air Evac, not to listen to rumors.
“You may have heard rumors that we won’t be bringing in a new  helicopter,” Barkley said.
“A brand new 2012 helicopter has been ordered and will be based out of the (McAlester Regional Health Center).”
In July the commissioners concerned that a change might affect county employees, sent a letter to the MRHC asking the hospital to reconsider changing air ambulance companies after learning the hospital was looking into contract negotiations with a new provider.
Barkley said county employees can expect the same service or better than before.
“We will provide you with world-class service,” he said.
Also attending Monday’s meeting was District 3 Commissioner Ronnie Young, Commission Chairman Gene Rogers and District 2 Commissioner Kevin Smith.
Pittsburg County Commissioners meet Mondays at 9 a.m. in the  commissioners conference room at the Pittsburg County courthouse. The meetings are open to the public. For more on this story, see the print or electronic editions of the McAlester News-Capital.
