McALESTER —
EagleMed held its first open house at the McAlester Regional Airport on Friday.
“It was very well attended,” said Patrick Barkley regional program director.
“We had lots of people with lots of questions that we were happy to answer,”
Barkley estimated 70 people attended afternoon event including McAlester city officials, McAlester Regional Health Center community members and also end-users such as paramedics and nurses.
He said attendees were encouraged to tour the aircraft including a American Eurocopter model AS350 and the only full-time staffed, medically-configured fixed-wing aircraft in the state of Oklahoma, the Beechcraft King Air C-90, which arrived in McAlester in January.
EagleMed replaced AirEvac last year after a contract with McAlester Regional Health Center was not renewed.
Meanwhile Barkley said he appreciated the support of the community, McAlester Regional Health Center and the City of McAlester.
“The support and community involvement has been great,” he said.

Junior Sunbelt Classic schedule released
The schedule for the Junior Sunbelt Classic baseball tournament has been released. Games begin on Frdiay, June 7, at 9 a.m., and conclude with the championship on Wednesday, June 12, at 7:45 p.m. at Mike Deak Field in McAlester.

McAlester/Pittsburg County Emergency services prepares for severe weather
Tornadoes and severe weather have torn through a large part of Oklahoma today (May 20,2013) and have devastated Moore south of Oklahoma City hitting two schools and Moore's hospital.
Severe weather is possible for Pittsburg County and is under a tornado watch until 10 p.m. this evening.
