Cowboys comeback falls short against Scorpions

KIOWA — The Kiowa Cowboys almost overcame a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter Thursday, but in the end just couldn’t survive a poor third quarter.

Boswell senior Markell Henderson scored 21 points, including 15 in the second half, to lead the Scorpions to a 56-51 win against the Cowboys in Thursday’s regional semi-final game at Kiowa.

Boswell automatically qualified for the Area IV Tournament next week with its win. Kiowa played Ft. Towson in the consolation semi-finals on Friday, with only the winner of the consolation bracket advancing.

Down 23-22 to start the third quarter, Boswell put Kiowa on its heels with a quick 6-0 run. Cameron Collier started the run by putting back an offensive rebound to give the Scorpions their first lead since early in the first.

With the win, Boswell improved to 23-4 and advanced to the regional championship on Saturday at Kiowa. Kiowa fell to 17-10.
