Free legal help for low income residents offered in McAlester

McALESTER — Low income people in need of assistance with civil cases have access to free legal help in McAlester.

“We help about 300 people a year,” said Rick Yohn staff attorney for Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma. .

He said some of the cases his organization can help with include, divorce, debt collection, foreclosure, guardianships, unemployment disputes and domestic actions.

“People can walk in or call and make an appointment,” Yohn said.

Recently the office for Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma moved to 122 E. Carl Albert Parkway, Suite 203. The office was previously located at 1335 E. Carl Albert Parkway.

He said those with a civil legal problem that may qualify for legal aid, can call the toll-free application hotline at 888-534-5243 to determine eligibility for free legal services.

Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma is a not-for-profit law firm which provides free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income individuals and their families and to elderly persons.

 Legal Aid attorneys and staff work through LASO’s 22 law offices and satellite offices, serving eligible clients in all 77 counties of Oklahoma.

 Legal Aid Services prioritizes cases involving issues which affect basic necessities of life, such as the basic necessities of life, such as safety, food, shelter, and a source of income.
