Habitat for Humanity open PIttsburg County office

McALESTER —  Habitat for Humanity Pittsburg County has just become official and now the process of finding a family to build a home for can begin, according to Joey Clark director of the organization.

The brand new organization which is housed with Shared Blessings just became an official affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International this month but it’s been in the works for more than a year.

“We have been working on it for about 18 months,” Clark said.

Clark said a Financial Planning and Application series will be held on Mondays at 6 p.m. on Feb. 4, 11, and 25, at Shared Blessings, 558 S. Main Street, McAlester.

“During the three weeks we will cover budgeting and debt reduction, “Clark said. “At the end of the three weeks they will be able to fill out the application for Habitat Housing.”

He said applicants must attend all three sessions before the application will be accepted.

Clark said the organization already has plans for the home and they have property to build the home on, but they need volunteers.

“We need everyone with experience with construction and with help mentoring the family,” Clark said.

And he said the family that is selected will also be required to volunteer in the process.
