McAlester man pleads guilty to making meth

McALESTER — A McAlester man recently pleaded guilty to making methamphetamine in a home in the 1200 block of East Polk Avenue in McAlester.

Luke Austin Homer, 32, was charged Oct. 1 in Pittsburg County District Court with manufacture of a controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine) and maintaining a place for keeping /selling controlled substances.

On Jan. 3, Homer pleaded guilty to the manufacturing charge and was sentenced to serve 21 years, with the last 14 years suspended, in the custody of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. The second count was dismissed.

According to court records, authorities were informed of a strong chemical odor coming from the Homer’s East Polk Avenue home on Sept. 28. When police went to investigate, they too smelled the “strong chemical odor,” a police affidavit states.

District 18 Narcotics Task Force agents and McAlester police officers approached the residence and detained Homer, who denied police access to his residence, the affidavit states.

Police were able to secure a search warrant, signed by Pittsburg County Associate District Judge James Bland. When they searched the residence, police found numerous items associated with the manufacturing of methamphetamine.

Homer has been in custody at the Pittsburg County jail since Sept. 29 and is now waiting to be transported to DOC custody.
