McALESTER —
On Thursday at 6 p.m. the McAlester Board of Education will hold a special meeting at the Old McAlester High School to interview applicants wanting to fill Board Seat No. 3 that was vacated by the resignation of Ann Walker, according to Superintendant Marsha Gore.
July 9, the issue was on the agenda, however, it was tabled at the Board of Education meeting.
Gore said that the special Board of Education meeting was posted Friday at the City Hall of McAlester.
The Board Seat No. 3 will be filled by appointment by the McAlester Board of Education.
MPS Secretary to the Superintendent Pam Zugelder, who plans to retire this school year after 35 years with MPS, said in early June, “If the vacancy is not filled by appointment within 60 days of the date the board declared the seat vacant, the board of education shall call a special election to fill the vacancy for the unexpired term.”
District 3 begins at the intersection of North Main Street and East Monroe Avenue; thence southeast on East Monroe Avenue to the eastern boundary of McAlester Public School District 80; thence northward along the eastern boundary of McAlester District 80 to the north boundary of McAlester Public School District 80; thence westward along the northern boundary of McAlester Public School District 80 to North Main Street; thence south on North Main Street to East Monroe Avenue.
This district includes approximately 3,558 people, Watkins said.
Zugelder said applications for appointment can be picked up at the McAlester Public Schools Central Office located in the Old McAlester High School, 200 E. Adams Ave.
Call the office of the Superintendent and Board of Education, at 918-423-4771 for more information.
