Mac Town Skate Fest Friday

McALESTER — Mac Town Skate Fest kicks off  Friday with a demonstration from Tulsa’s professional Quickie Mart skaters at 10 a.m., the competition will start at noon and the event will end at 4 p.m.

The McAlester’s Boardwalk Skate Park at 13th Street and Flemming Avenue, in Connally Park, will host the event.

The Pittsburg County Local Service Coalition is sponsoring the Mac Town Skate Fest as it has the last five years.

This year’s Skate Fest judges are all skaters from Quickie Mart in Tulsa.

“This year we will not be charging an entry fee,” event coordinator Stacy Williams said. “Komar donated $450, which covers all prize money and Billy Jack Boatright sponsored the Best Trick prize.”

Williams said there will also be personalized T-shirts and beanie hats for the winners.

“The City of McAlester will be bringing out the stage, bleachers, table, tent, chairs and the canvasses for the graffiti,” WIlliams said. “And, the City is making the repairs the youth asked for.”

There will be a deejay, hot dog vendor and Westside Skate Supply will be on site with a booth, she said.

“Quickie Mart is also setting up a tent, giving out free water and other giveaways,” Williams said. “They also have been advertising the Mac Town Skate Fest in their shop.”

Williams said skaters in the area will not want to miss this event, because this year is going to be a strong year for the event.

“The Quickie Mart Crew will be visiting our event right after coming back from a tour of Costa Rica promoting skateboarding and BMX,” Williams said. “They are sending a crew of 10 to do the demo and judging for us completely free of charge.”

“This be a good opportunity for the public to come and see some really good skating,” Williams said. “Not just from the Quickie Mart Crew but from our local athletes as well.”

She said in addition to the skate competition there will also be Beat Box, Free Skate and a graffiti competitions.
