Human Popsicle fundraiser

McALESTER — For the ninth year, McAlester Radio personality Kevin Dean will stand atop Cavender’s Western Outfitters for the Human Popsicle fundraiser. Beginning at 6 a.m. Friday, Dean and his wife Renodda will stand on the roof of the western apparel store until they have collected at least $10,000.

The couple will lower a bucket tied to a rope for people to put their donations in and then the couple will pull the bucket up. Friday’s early morning low is forecast at 40 degrees and the mid-day high is expected to be 51 degrees. Every year, Dean changes his charity of choice.

This year all donations are going to American Cancer Society for research. “We will start at 6 a.m. and we will not come down until we get 10 grand,” Dean said. “We’ll take donations from 50 cents to $5,000.” Dean said the best year of the fundraiser collected $14,000.

“Help make this year the biggest year ever,” Dean said. “I want you to help me fight the big C.” Donations can also be dropped off at the radio station or mailed to the Human Popsicle P.O. Box 1068 McAlester, OK 74502. Contact MJ Brickey by email at mjbrickey@journalist.com.
