McALESTER — Alex Becker stands ready to bowl. He stares down the mark he wants to hit, takes a few steps forward, brings the 14-pound ball back and releases it in a smooth, controlled arc.
Imagining the bowling lane as the face of a clock, the ball hooks from 7 to the center and then back out towards 11, crashing into the pocket just to the right of the head pin. The majority, if not all, of the pins crash as one.
This might not sound unusual for a good bowler, but Becker is 88 years old. At 88, Becker still bowls better than many half or even a quarter of his age.
“I just love to bowl,” Becker said on Thursday.
“Anywhere there’s bowling, I enjoy.”
