McALESTER —
It was lights out after a truck snagged utility lines that downed four utility poles and started a small fire just before noon Thursday in downtown McAlester.
A call came into the city police station at 11:59 a.m. Thursday that a truck had hit utility poles and there was a fire, according to McAlester police reports.
Police blocked Main Street at Madison Avenue, according to McAlester Police Department Det. Capt. Gary Wansick.
Wansick said a tractor trailer hit the power lines, pulling down four power poles before the driver realized what happened and stopped. The downed wires started a fire on the ground that was distinguished by the McAlester Fire Department, he added.
Behind the tractor trailer, the wires hit two cars that sustained minor damage, Wansick said. The occupants of the vehicles were not injured, and the drivers were able to pull their cars to safety before exiting their vehicles.
