McAlester man sentenced to federal prison term

McALESTER — Clint Lee James, 21, of McAlester, has been sentenced to 78 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of ammunition, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee.

The 78-month sentence will equal nearly six and a-half years.

Following the prison term, James will face an additional three years of federal supervision for the felon in possession of a firearm conviction.

He was also sentenced to a 36-month prison term, followed by another year of supervised release, for a “possession of body armor by violent felon” conviction.

U.S. District Judge James H. Payne presided over the Tuesday hearing at the U.S. Eastern District of Oklahoma federal courthouse in Muskogee. He ordered the sentences to run concurrently, which means they can be served at the same time.

The charges resulted from an investigation by the McAlester Police Department and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, according to a statement from the U.S. attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Chris Wilson represented the U.S. attorney’s office in the Case. Wilson is a former McAlester resident who previously served as the District 18 district attorney for Pittsburg and Haskell counties before joining the U.S. attorney’s office.
