OSU Sports Minute

STILLWATER — With pace of play a key factor in the spread offense, the quarterback's ability to handle the tempo is everything.

And for Oklahoma State, going from a 28-year-old first-round draft pick to an 18-year-old true freshman, the tempo could be erratic.

"That was one of my concerns when we started up the fall camp. And up to now it has been good," OSU coach Mike Gundy said. "Is it as fast at (Brandon) Weeden? No. It's been about two seconds off. ... But it's been really close and as he learns to get everybody set up like he's supposed to, it should get faster."

Making it difficult for Wes Lunt is the inexperience surrounding him at the wide receiver position. The Cowboys have three true freshmen listed on the depth chart at the receiver positions.

"One thing that has helped him is having veteran running backs. One thing that has worked against him, is having freshmen receivers out there," Gundy said. "We play six our seven wideouts because three or four players can't function in our system — it takes too much.

"Well a lot of those times we've got freshmen out there playing. So he's trying to get them lined up the same time they're trying to get themselves lined up."
