Sunbelt brings talented teams to McAlester
America’s game.
The 12th Annual Junior Sunbelt Classic completed the first day of competition, Friday.
Players from around the United States and Canada have been selected by their home area’s coaches association, to come to McAlester and play in a six day tournament at McAlester’s Mike Deak field and Wilburton’s Eastern Oklahoma State College and represent their state and country.
Our neighbors from the north Canada, along with; Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri, Mississippi, Arizona, Texas, two teams from Oklahoma, and replacing team California — Durant Legion, have traveled far and wide to compete for this season’s Sunbelt Classic championship for a years worth of bragging rights.
Team Tennessee and team Georgia kicked off the Sunbelt Classic, Friday morning at Mike Deak field.
Tennessee went undefeated in day one competition, defeating team Georgia, 7-3 in the first contest — they continued their momentum and defeated team Missouri 3-1 in their second game of the afternoon.
Last year’s Sunbelt champions, team Missouri, defeated team Canada at EOSC, in a first round slug-fest, 15-11.
In other games; team Mississippi started their day defeating team Canada 11-10 and ending it with a loss to the Oklahoma Gold team, 7-3.
Oklahoma Gold went one and one, losing a close first game to team Arizona 15-14.
Team Oklahoma Blue defeated team Durant Legion, 10-1 and lost to team Texas in the final game held at EOSC, 5-6.
Team Durant Legion was defeated by team Arizona, Saturday morning at Mike Deak baseball field 8-0.
Games will continued Saturday at both Mike Deak and EOSC.
Today’s games will starting at 2 p.m. and will continue until 7:45 p.m.
Games played at 7:45 p.m. in Wilburton will be played at Wilburton high school.
