Buffs get pair of wins on home court

It was all wins for the McAlester basketball teams.

The majestic Buffaloes host to the Durant Lions on the court, Tuesday at Bob Brumley Gymnasium.

The undefeated Lady Buffs trampled the Lady Lions, 50-29. The momentum was carried over into the boy’s game. The Buffaloes defeated the Lions, 69-37, in the second victory of the evening.

In the first game of the night, the Lady Buffs had an early lead they ran with the entire evening.

The Lady Buffs’ first quarter lead was aided by four McAlester players. The first quarter ended 11-6.

McAlester senior Shay Griffin, began the first quarter with four points, she ended the game as high scorer with 21 points.

The Lady Buffs Allison Eales, sank two field goals with eight points for the evening.

Jami Steidley had seven points for the Lady Buffs. Whitney Anderson, 4; Lesley Huff and Lashanda Green, 3; Keleshia Johnson and Jay Edwards 2.

McAlester recorded only two team fouls in their, 24-17, first half lead. They seemed to boost their aggression in the second half, tallying up nine more fouls. The Lady Lions were struck with the same 11 fouls for the evening.

The Lady Buffs played well on defense in the third quarter. They allowed one basket, that counted for three, from the Lady Lions’ Kaylie Baxter.

The Lady Buffs scored another 11 points in the third quarter for a 15 point lead, 35-20.

Despite a comfortable lead, the Lady Buffs scored another 15 points on the Lady Lions. Durant scored nine points.

The night ended with Griffin on the foul line. She hit two free throws with 33 seconds left. The game ended with another win for the Lady Buffs. They defeated Durant, 50-29.

The McAlester home crowd continued to support the Buffaloes in the second game at Brumley gym. The Buffs recorded their first win of the season.

The Buffs’ David DeGiacomo hit an NBA 3-pointer to start McAlester out. The Buffs kept the Lions at bay for half of the first quarter, the Buffs had a 7-2 lead.

McAlester’s Zathan Simpson, went to the foul line and sank two more for the Buffs. That brought the score to 9-2.

DeGiacomo received an offensive rebound and turned it into another two points. Simpson stole the ball and scored two more points for the Buffs. The score was 13-2.

DeGiacomo scored seven points for the Buffs in the first quarter. He helped the Buffs with 13 points on the night.

The Buffs finished the first quarter with a 17-5 lead. Simpson recorded four points in the first quarter. That was all he scored for the evening.

The boys got on the board two minutes into the second quarter. They allowed the Lions four.

The Buffs’ Jacob Engleman led the quarter with two 3-point shots. The first one came with 5:23 on the game clock and the second with 2:45 left to play in the half. Engleman recorded eight points for the Buffs. Two other players scored eight for McAlester, they were; Prevon Erving and Clif Smitherman.

With a 31-9 lead, the Buffs allowed the Lions to go on a five point spurt after the Engleman three.

The Buffs ended the half with a 34-16 lead.

McAlester picked up their offensive game in the third quarter. They scored 21 points to the Lions eight. By the end of the third quarter the Buffs were comfortable sitting at a 55-22 lead.

McAlester’s Calvin Boyle, had a big third quarter. He scored six points for the Buffaloes. He ended the night with 10 points. Ben Collier, six points; J.J. Burke and Seth Easley, 2-points each, and Jimmy Williams recorded one point for the Buffs.

The Buffaloes’ Delante Redway was the fan favorite in the fourth quarter. He scored five points in the fourth, with seven for the evening.

The night ended with a pair of technical fouls, one from each team. The Buffs’ Austin Hogan was the final scorer for the Buffs.

The Buffs defeated the Durant Lions, 69-37.
