Tyler Crabtree is a busy kid. Between his regular high school curriculum, prep football, being homecoming king, college algebra, and church, it can be an accomplishment just to have a conversation with the dynamic receiver.
There is little he doesn’t do for the Buffaloes’ football team. He has racked up stats on both sides of the ball and has been a force all season. Producing not only at receiver, but quarterback as well in two games, Crabtree is a cornerstone of the Buffs’ success in this season.
He sights Wes Welker as his favorite pro player “because he’s awesome. He’s a little, inside receiver. I try to be like him,” Crabtree said.
When the wideout isn’t doing homework, playing football or getting ready for baseball, he attends Life Church regularly. You can find the playmaker at church every Sunday and Wednesday and he even finds time to speak at Fellowship of Christian Athlete meetings.
He believes the major advantages his coaches bring to the team is that, “They’re all really good at what they do. They all have so much experience and our defensive coordinator, Kevin Harmon, really knows his stuff. Also, we have a bible study at seven o’clock every morning with Coach Pratt. I really appreciate it.”
If Crabtree could have one play over, it would be, “a cut on a reverse where Delante [Redway] handed me the ball on a kick return. If I had went left instead of right, I would have taken it to the house. I had great blocking downfield.”
With so many different aspects of playing receiver such as laying mean blocks, catching deep balls, and scoring touchdowns; Crabtree said his favorite part of playing receiver is, “screen passes. That’s where I get most of my catches. I like it when the team gets me the ball and lets me run.”
That sounds like a good idea with the nine touchdowns he’s been able to score this season. The Buffaloes are 9-1 and that success could be due to utilizing the senior defensive back on both sides of the ball.
“I want to go to a college and play sports,” said the aspiring collegiate athlete.
When things get tough and stressful, Crabtree said he turns to, “God, I get my Bible and I pray.”
In Tahlequah, Crabtree helped the Buffs get their eighth win in a row this season with a five-touchdown performance. Throwing two in and running three in, the touchdown hound really has a nose for the endzone.
Outside of football, the young student-athlete plays baseball as well. As a catcher and a center-fielder, the Buffaloes will continue to revel in his success even after football season.
This football season still has one more home game left with Tulsa’s Nathan Hale Rangers coming to Hook Eales Stadium tonight at 7:30 p.m.
