The (6-3) Hartshorne Miners will be hosting the (2-7) Antlers Bearcats. Though banged up throughout the roster, the Hartshorne Miners will look to overcome the Bearcats before pressing on to the playoffs.
The Miners are coming off a tough road game in Spiro but they plan to leave the past where it belongs. “We can look up, so we are going to get back up,” said Head Coach Bill E. Williams.
The high-octane offensive weaponry the Miners have unleashed game in and game out this season shows no sign of stopping. Despite injuries to practically every unit on both offense and defense, the Miners have banded together and hold the best Class 2A record in Pittsburg County.
Wilburton High School will be playing host to Valliant in the Diggers’ last game of the season. With the Bulldogs coming to town, the Wilburton Diggers will hope to get their first win in their last game of the season.
The Savanna Bulldogs will play their last regular season game this week in Gore. The Pirates of Gore are coming off a low-scoring, close game with the Haileyville Warriors that Gore won with the only score in the game. The Savanna Bulldogs are also enjoying a close win, having overcome the Quinton Savages on, Oct. 30.
Savanna went into overtime against Haileyville Oct. 16 and managed to squeak out a win, not unlike the way Gore had to beat the Warriors. Seperating Gore from the rest is that they managed to score 19 of the 27 points allowed by the super-talented Talihina Golden Tigers this season.
Quinton and Haileyville will fight Friday to see who is more bitter about their team’s loss from Oct. 30. With both teams booted from the playoff picture, it will be time for the Warriors and the Savages to show that they play for honor, if not glory.
With close games from all the local Class A teams recently, both matchups could be very competitive.
The entire local football scene is narrowing with certain teams being eliminated, but a wealth of local teams have earned their places in the brackets.
McAlester, Hartshorne, and Savanna have all earned playoff berths in their respective classes, regardless of how the teams perform Friday.
