Quinton needs to get physical at Savanna

By TOBY CAWYER

The Quinton Savages are looking to pick up their fifth win of the season Friday night when they travel to Savanna to battle the Bulldogs. Quinton (4-4) was riding a three game winning streak before dropping their last contest 42-20 to Central Sallisaw. Savanna (6-2) is going to try to stay with the same game plan that led to a 40-20 victory over Pocola last week.

The only two times that the Bulldogs tasted the bitterness of defeat came at the hands of Talihina and Central ( the top two teams in the district). Beating the third place Bulldogs on their home field should prove to be quite the challenge for the Savages.

“ We are definitely going to have to be physical.” said Quinton head coach Chad Gragg. “ They have got a small but very fast and aggressive defense.” The Savanna defense has put up three shut-outs this season and has only allowed three or more touchdowns twice all year long. “ If we control the line of scrimmage, I like our chances.” added coach Gragg.

The Savages are going to have to try and contain the Bulldogs Junior quarterback Landon Walker, who is very mobile and able to burn opposing defenses with his athletic play-making ability. The Savanna offense is balanced with their running game trying to draw in the other team’s defense to open the passing game. The Savage defense has been playing pretty well themselves, during their previous streak they only gave up 8 points in the three games.

Quinton is trying to improve their record to 5-4 before closing the regular season next week at home against Haileyville (4-3). It should be a hard hitting affair with both teams trying to establish the running game early.
