4-H contest shares fun

Pittsburg County 4-H recently completed its annual Senior Share the Fun contest. Share the Fun is a talent contest for members, and the senior contest was held for those members ages 13 and older as of Jan. 10, 2010. This contest included solo acts, small group acts of two to four members and large group acts of five or more members. The acts could include musical, dramatic, and novelty. This contest is an advancement contest where winners advance to compete at District Share the Fun, which will be held in February at a location to be determined. The winners of the district contest will advance and perform at State 4-H Roundup in July of 2010.

Grand and reserve champion winners were: Solo — Grand Champion — Rebekah Willis of Canadian, who performed the vocal solo “That’s What It Is;” Reserve Champion -- MaKenna Rogers of Kiowa, who performed a tap dance routine to “Lost.”

Small Group —Grand Champion — Rebekah and Elisabeth Willis of Canadian, who performed the vocal duet “Bring us together;” Reserve Champion — Barbara and Ruth Bullard of Indianola, who performed the comedy routine “Who’s on First?”

Large Group — Grand Champion — Kiowa 4-H, who performed the skit “12 Days of Christmas.” Reserve Champion — MHS 4-H, who performed the vocal “I’ll Fly Away.” Members for MHS included Ashley Zummer, Ariel Clark, Samantha Brownlee, Cayden Martin (Krebs) and Jessica Taylor.

Ribbon winners were as follows: Blue ribbons - Kiowa Large Group, Canadian-Elisabeth Willis, Canadian Small Group, Rebekah Willis; Quinton-Bailey Pugh; Indianola-Barbara Bullard, Indianola Small Group; Kiowa-MaKenna Rogers. Red ribbons - Quinton Large and Small Groups; MHS Small Group and Samantha Brownlee; and Indianola - Ruth Bullard. White ribbons - Crowder-Brianna Swboni; Frink-Chambers Large and Small Groups and Levi Gilmore, and Jay Gilbertson; and Krebs - Cayden Martin.

  • Council 2 City council conveys $700,000 to McAlester Public Schools

    Students at McAlester schools who’ve experienced water   dripping into  their classrooms whenever it rains can now expect relief in the form of new roofs.

  • Unoffiicial winners declared in school board races; Crowder bond issue passes

    Mike Sossamon won the Tuesday election for Office No. 2 on the McAlester School Board, according to unofficial election results.
    Other school board members were elected in Hartshorne, Savanna and Crowder — with voters in the Crowder school system also handily passing a school bond issue.

    At Monday’s McAlester School Board meeting, Superintendent Tom Condict anounced that the school’s allocation amount from state funding has increased by $427,153.
