KIOWA —
College-bound Kiowa High School seniors can apply for $8,000 in scholarships.
Kiowa Power Partners, LLC, owner of Tenaska Kiamichi Generating Station near Kiowa, and the plant’s power customer, Shell Energy North America (US), L.P. (Shell Energy), will again sponsor $8,000 in academic scholarships for college-bound Kiowa High School seniors.
Kiowa High School seniors graduating in spring 2013 may apply. Applications can be obtained from the high school guidance counselor and must be submitted no later than March 4. The $8,000 from the two companies will be awarded in amounts of $1,000.
The companies have awarded 77 scholarships totaling $72,000 to Kiowa High School students since 2004.
“Education provides the foundation for future success,” said Robert Pope, plant manager for Tenaska Kiamichi Generating Station.
“We are proud to help promising Kiowa High School seniors continue their education and prepare to be tomorrow’s business and community leaders.”
A committee at Tenaska’s headquarters will select the seniors to receive the scholarships. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate that they are prepared for college study, have good character and rank in the top half of their class.
