State officers to visit local FFA chapters

McALESTER — The state Future Farmers of America officer team of the Oklahoma FFA Association will conduct their 2013 Goodwill Tour with a visit to the Kiowa and Stuart FFA Chapters on Jan. 23.

Four collegiate FFA leaders will stop at the local school at each chapter to meet the FFA members, potential members, school administrators and community leaders.

“We will challenge FFA members to go above and beyond the status quo,” said Brandon Bumgarten, state FFA president.

“Don’t be motivated by the pat-on-the-back, but instead be motivated by the difference you can make,” Bumgarten said.

Throughout the Goodwill Tour, state officers will challenge FFA members to go for the gold and to set their goals high.

A total of 56 chapters were selected for the 2013 tour from the 352 total chapters in the state.

Visiting the local chapters will be Alex Cas, state secretary; Kaylen Baker, state reporter; Annie Joe Gilbert, central district vice president; and Kyle Hilbert, northeast district vice president.

All are students at Oklahoma State University and sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.

The Oklahoma FFA Association, formally known and the Oklahoma Future Farmers of America, is public school youth organization of 24,369 student members statewide — all preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture.

The Oklahoma FFA Association changed to its present name in 1988, in recognition of the growth and diversity of agriculture and agricultural education. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
