McALESTER —
A Sapulpa man was arrested last week after allegedly stealing gas from a filling station.
Cody Allen Brown, 21, was arrested and charged in Pittsburg County District Court with gasoline pump thievery.
On Jan. 24, Brown was traveling through McAlester when he stopped at the Kum & Go at the corner of Sixth Street and Wyandotte Avenue in McAlester. He allegedly pumped $49.95 in gas into his gold colored Chevy Impala and then drove off without paying for the fuel.
McAlester Police Officer Daryl Dayton caught up with Brown and, according to a police affidavit, the alleged gas gaffler told the officer that he was lost and was looking for State Highway 75. Dayton asked Brown about his stop to get gas and Brown agreed that he had indeed fueled up his vehicle. According to the affidavit, Brown said that he thought his passenger, Tyler Bellmyer, had paid for the gas. But when the officer asked the passenger, Bellmyer said that he thought his buddy Brown had paid for the fuel.
The officer then contacted the Kum & Go clerk, who said as long as the driver returned to pay for his fuel, no criminal charges would be filed. Dayton escorted Brown back to the Kum & Go, but when there, the alleged gas thief was unable to pay for the fuel by either cash or debit card.
“Brown was arrested under the pump pirate act and he was transported to the Pittsburg County Jail,” the affidavit states.
