McALESTER —
On Monday, Pittsburg County Commissioners approved an agreement between the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Department and the Haileyville Police Department.
Under the approved agreement, the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Department will provide full dispatch radio service and all communications services at $50 a month to the Haileyville Police Department under a 12-month contract.
Sheriff Joel Kerns explained to commissioners why the sheriff’s department charges Haileyville $50 but charges Kiowa $1,000.
Kerns said Kiowa’s traffic calls are comparable to those of McAlester and Krebs ,where Haileyville has very few traffic calls and will tie up little of the dispatchers’ time.
In other business at the Monday meeting, Pittsburg County Emergency Management Director Trent Myers, acting as a representative of E911/911 Advisory and Oversight Board, was on the agenda to discuss a possible action on hiring additional employees to assist the current 911 coordinator.
Pittsburg County commissioners meet every Monday at 9 a.m. in the county commissioners’conference room at the Pittsburg County Courthouse. The meetings are open to the public.
