Courthouse under guard during threat on Thursday

McALESTER —

Several officers spent Thursday night guarding the Pittsburg County Courthouse after a Tulsa man allegedly made a threat, according to Richard Bedford Pittsburg County Under Sheriff.
By Friday afternoon it was business as usual at the courthouse, but Thursday it was a different story according to Bedford
“A threat was made a we took precautionary measures,” Bedford said.
He said the precautionary measures included a three metal detectors which were set up at the courthouse, officers on duty all night at the courthouse and restricted access to the courthouse.
“The threat was not made directly to the courthouse but was made to the ‘judicial system’” Bedford said.
According to court documents the threat was made by Guy Donovan, 52, of Chanute Arkansas.
According to court documents Donovan allegedly texted and called his ex-wife numerous times and asked for a her to bring him his weapon because “he was going to need it to take care of the system that (mistreated) him.”
Bedford said precautions were taken at the courthouse because Donavan was set to appear in court Friday at 11 a.m. on an application to accelerate the deferred judgment on a 2010 case.
Donovan was set to appear in Pittsburg County Court on Friday on an application to accelerate the deferred judgment on a 2010 case where he pleaded guilty to felony driving under the influence, transporting open bottle of liquor and obstructing an officer, according to court documents.
District 18 District AttorneyFarley Ward said misdemeanor charges of threatening to perform an act of violence relating to his threats were dropped because he was sentenced Friday to prison for five years for violating the terms of his probation on the earlier case.
“It the interest of judicial economy  the charges were dropped,” Ward said.
Meanwhile, Bedford said several officers from the McAlester Police department and the Pittsburg Sheriff’s Office worked all night Thursday and most of the morning on Friday guarding the courthouse until the Tulsa County Sheriff arrested Donovan at a Tulsa motel at 6:30 a.m. on Friday.
“I just want to thank all of the officers from our office and the McAlester Police Department including the reserve officers and the Tulsa County Sheriffs  Office for working on this with us.” Bedford said.
