Former Quinton police officer pleads guilty to embezzling guns

McALESTER — A former Quinton police officer pleaded guilty recently to embezzling guns.

Eric Stinnett, 34, of Webber Falls, was charged in September in Pittsburg County District Court with one count of second degree burglary and one count of embezzlement.

After pleading guilty to the amended charge, Stinnett was fined $500 and judgment and sentencing were deferred for five years. The second count was dismissed.

According to court records, Stinnett broke into the office of the administrator’s evidence lock-up and took two guns. Stinnett was interviewed regarding three missing guns, according to a police affidavit by Quinton Police Chief Tim Reavis, and Stinnett said he took two of them — a Rugar 10/22 rifle and a Savage 410 shotgun.

According to court records, Stinnett pawned the Rugar on July 8. “The pawned gun and one of the other guns have been recovered,” the affidavit states.

Quinton Town Clerk Charlene Cass said that Stinnett is no longer employed there. He was a Quinton police officer from May 30, 2012, to Sept. 13, 2012, Cass said.

After pleading guilty, Stinnett was ordered by the court to surrender his CLEET certification, court records state.
