Patrolmen to teach motorcycle class

McALESTER — Plans are under way for a free advanced motorcycle safety course given by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

This spring, members of the Motorcycle Safety Unit of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol will come to McAlester to give a free class on advanced motorcycle riding, according to OHP Motorcycle Safety Unit Troopers David Cravens and Brian Medeiros.

“This will be a free eight-hour course for experienced riders who want to learn about advanced braking and evasive manuevers,” Medieros said.

Cravens said they have already given nine classes and the response was good.

“I think people are surprised at what they don’t know,” Cravens said.

“The limit on their riding abilities expands with their confidence.”

Medieros said that riders know how to drive straight “but they learn that it takes more ability to drive slow and manuver slow.”

Craven said Life Church on State Highway 69 will be the location; however an exact date has not yet been set.
