OKLAHOMA CITY —
The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected an Oklahoma death row inmate’s request for a stay of execution.
The request by Michael Hooper was turned down in a two-sentence ruling issued Tuesday by Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
The ruling clears the way for Oklahoma to put the 39-year-old Hooper to death at 6 p.m. Tuesday for the December 1993 shooting deaths of his former girlfriend and her two young children.
Defense attorney Jim Drummond said he’s “obviously disappointed” with the ruling and that there are no more appeals available.
Hooper was convicted and sentenced to death for the killings of 23-year-old Cynthia Lynn Jarman, and her two children, 5-year-old Tonya and 3-year-old Timmy.
He would become the fourth inmate put to death in Oklahoma this year.
