McALESTER — Compliance findings in the town of Kiowa’s financial statements in violation of Oklahoma law and violations from previous audits were revealed in an audit approved by the Kiowa Board of Trustees on Tuesday.
The auditor also said the town is a high-risk auditee, defined as a high risk of not complying with federal laws and regulations, according to whitehouse.gov.
The most recent finding was General Fund expenditures over-budget, including $3,912 in expenditures that exceeded appropriations, in violation of state law, according to the audit.
The town is working to make improvements on the past violations, according to JoMae Peck, Kiowa Town Clerk
“We only had one (finding) this year,” Peck said
The general fund was over-spent, according to the audit. “Late adjustments either by staff or consultants resulted in costs paid in subsequent periods to be reported in the current year,” according to the audit.
