Members of the McAlester firefighters union contend the city should stick with incentive pay for additional firefighter training.
“Sticker pay,” as referred to by the city, refers to additional pay firefighters receive for getting the extra training. It’s a couple of words that are not well-liked by Professional Firefighters of Oklahoma President Rick Beams. Beams, who is also a lieutenant with the McAlester Fire Department, has been involved in negotiations between the city of McAlester and members Local 2284 Chapter of the International Association of Firefighters.
Calling it the sticker system “trivializes it,” Beams said. “It sounds as if it’s an easy standard to get through.”
