McALESTER —
Dustin P. Rowe of Tishomingo has formed an exploratory committee to consider whether he will run for Congress in Oklahoma’s Second District. Rowe, 35, is a general practice lawyer in Tishomingo. He served two terms as mayor of Tishomingo at the age of eighteen, making him one of the youngest mayors in the nation. Rowe went on to serve as District Director to former Congressman Wes Watkins.
“As a former member of my Congressional staff, I know Dustin Rowe to be a common sense, hardworking, outstanding young man with high moral values and tremendous ability,” Watkins said. “Lou and I know the citizens of the Second Congressional District would be well-served if they elect Dustin Rowe as their Congressman.”
Rowe is speaking at Angel’s Diner in McAlester on Thursday at 7 p.m. Lonnie Lu Anderson is the Pittsburg County GOP Chairman.
Rowe says he will visit with Republicans across the District about the race and that he feels a solid Republican candidate can win the general election in November 2012. Rowe, who has been a registered Republican since the age of 18, said, “We need candidates who are not sold out to either party, but who will vote their own conscience. We need candidates who will say no to borrowed spending, and we all know that many Republicans, as well as Democrats, have borrowed against our future. If I run, and win, I will vote against spending money that is not in the bank.
“Those of us in rural America need to stand up and try to make a difference. I ask the people of the second district to visit with me and let me know their thoughts as I consider this race.”
Rowe is married to Nicole Rowe, a Pre-Kindergarten teacher at Tishomingo Elementary School. They have two children — Price, 14, and Madison, 12.
Lynn Windel, Oklahoma Republican National Committeeman from 1992-2008, will chair Rowe’s Exploratory Committee.
