Leona Inez ‘Nez’ Smart Nelson

McALESTER — Leona Inez “Nez” Smart Nelson, 97, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012. in Coalgate.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Ashland with Rev. Jim Gantt officiating.  Interment will follow at Ashland Cemetery in Ashland, Oklahoma. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home in McAlester.

She was born Sept. 28, 1915, in Maud, Okla., to Jake F. and Ora (Hodges) Smart. She graduated from Haywood High School with the class of 1934. She married Leo Nelson on Sept. 17, 1935, in McAlester and lived her entire adult life in Ashland.  She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Ashland.

She is survived by her sons, Richard Nelson and wife, Vada, of Coalgate, and Delbert Nelson and wife, Myrna, of Ashland; daughter, Nelda Inman, of McAlester; grandchildren, Tony Gibby, of Coalgate; Cathy Krafft and husband, Randy, of Terlton; Carla Brunson, and husband, Glen, of Wilburton; Brad Inman, of McAlester, and Darren Nash and wife, Arliene, of Ashland; great-grandchildren, Sidney  Gibby, Jason Koss, Holly Dunlap, Amy Jones, Richard Howard, Lauren Howard, Susan Inman, Blake Inman, Taylor Brunson, Caleb Brunson, Wyatt Howry and Geena Howry; great-great grandchildren, Garrett Koss, Madison Koss, Olivia Koss, Riley Koss, Logan Dunlap, Landon Dunlap and Emmeline Busby; sisters, Betty Jo Adams, of Claremore, and Jessie Ely, of Pittsburg; sister-in-law, Mary Alice Smart, of Carbon; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Nelson; parents, Ora Jane and Jake Smart; son, Burl Nelson; sisters, Berniece Glover, Helen Lashley, Joy Jiminez, Tommye Faye Potts and Loretta Johnston; brother, J.T. Smart and son-in-law, Jack Inman.

Pallbearers will be Dewey Wimberly, Dub Sartor, John McPhetridge, Brad Inman, Tony Gibby and Darren Nash.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons-in-law and great- grandsons.
