Gerald Alphonse “Jerry” “Boots” Turpin II

McALESTER — Gerald Alphonse “Jerry” “Boots” Turpin II, died Tuesday, Jan 29, 2013, in McAlester.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Faith Fellowship Church in McAlester with Brother Art Dodd officiating. There will be family visitation immediately following service with dinner. Arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born March 11, 1957, in Flint, Mich., he was the son of Gerald A. Turpin Sr. and Daisy Ellson Turpin. He attended Lakeville High in Ottisville, Mich.

In 1974 he joined the United States Army and served approximately two years.

He lived in the Michigan area until moving to Oklahoma in the late 1970s. He worked in the oil field industry and medically retired from Dual Drilling, where he was a driller.

He was mechanic, fisherman, hunter, avid rock and arrowhead hound, he enjoyed wolf dogs as well as any mutt dog.

Survivors include his mother and father, Daisy and John J. McLaughlin; brothers, Donald and Richard Turpin, of McAlester; sisters, Tammie Cary, of Arkoma, Janiece Higbee and her husband, Jeff, and Carolyn Sue McNatt, of McAlester.

Also, maternal aunts, Pat Brown, of Stigler, Sue Nixon and husband, Howard, Tucson, Ariz., and Debra Dempewolf, of Arkansas; paternal aunts, Mary Davis, of Michigan, and Betty Napoli, of New Jersey.

And, son, Gerald A. Turpin III (Adams), of McAlester; grandchildren, Kason and Kathine Newman, of Wilburton; nieces and nephews, Louisa Cary Scott, Bryan Johnson, Dale Turpin, Tabitha Cary Williams, Brenda Scoggins, Jamie Turpin Traister, Larry Nickerson, Jutanna Turpin Bowden, Wesley Cary, Jake McNatt, James Roberts and Jeremy Higbee; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; special friends, Bill and Ramona Copeland, Josh Champion, Greg Myers, “aunts” Sue Rowell and Sharon Reese, and numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents; son, Brian Heath Newman; brother, Anthony “Tony” Nickerson; stepdads, Henry Rowell, Larry Nickerson and Don Howell; uncles, Ted, Isaac and Harvey Rowell; great-niece, Abby Hood, and cousin, Jimmy Nelson.
