Dalton E. Earhart, 79, of McAlester

McALESTER — Dalton E. Earhart, 79, of McAlester, died Dec. 19, 2012, at his home.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Chaney Harkins Funeral Home. Services will be at Chaney Harkins Funeral Home on Saturday at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens. The Revs. C.B. Coplen and James Collins will officiate. Military honors will be presented by his grandsons who serve in the United States Army. Arrangements are under the direction of Chaney Harkins Funeral Home.

Born on May 21, 1933, in Hartshorne to Dalton L. and Ova G. Evans Earhart, he grew up and attended school in McAlester. At the age of 16, he joined the National Guard; at 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as an airman on the USS Princeton during the Korean War. He later joined the Navy Reserve for nine years.

He married Billie J. Cambron on Dec. 24, 1955, in McAlester. They were happily married for 57 years.

He started his career at Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa, then moved to St. Louis, Mo., and worked for McDonald Aircraft. He then returned to McAlester where he worked for Griffin Springer Hardware as a chainsaw mechanic, and in 1962, went to work for the Naval Ammunition Depot as an estimator and planner till his retirement in May 1990. He was a member of Frink Baptist Church where he served as a deacon; he was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 550.

His hobbies included farming, ranching and gardening. He also went on trail rides and attended Bluegrass festivals. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Billie J. Earhart of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Wade and Mary Earhart; son, Roy Earhart; and daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Ken Adkins, all of McAlester; grandchildren, Misti Tieman, of McAlester, Geri Ward, of McAlester, Miranda and Randall Dewitt, of Fort Rucker, Ala., Roy and Rachel Earhart, of Stigler, Dalton Earhart, of McAlester, Jesse and Tabatha Bryant, of McAlester, Rowdy Bryant and fiancé, Misty Hecker, of Fort Hood, Texas, Hanna Bryant, Taylor Adkins, Catlyn Adkins, all of McAlester; 12 great-grandchildren;  brother, Robert and wife, Dianna Earhart, of Hot Springs, Ark.; sister, Bettye and husband, Al Skelton, of Poteau; brother-in-laws, Jack and Alice Cambron, of Claremore, and Ronnie Blevins, of Scotia, Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Harrell Franklin, Bill Brewster, Ray Shelton, Ron Davis, Doy Adams and James Lott.

Honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday School Class: The Up’s.
