‘Granny’ Annie Clampitt

“Granny” Annie Clampitt, 93, a lifelong resident of McAlester, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at a nursing home in Arkoma.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Fred Duvall officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born Jan. 29, 1913, in McAlester, she was the daughter of Lee and Eleva (Williams) Garvin. She had lived all her life in McAlester where she was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of McAlester.

She married L. L. Clampitt in December 1968, and he preceded her in death in 1973. She worked at the old Albert Pike Hospital before going to work at the Featherston School as a cook in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

She later returned to work at the hospitals, including St. Mary’s, McAlester General West, and finally at the current McAlester Regional Health Center, until her retirement at the age of 72.

Survivors include one daughter, Beverly Duvall, VanBuren, Ark.; three grandchildren, Fred Duvall and his wife, Shannon, Paducah, Ky., Shawn Duvall and his wife, Joann, of Enterprise, and Dania McKibben and her husband, Lyndell, Mountainburg, Ark.; five great-grandchildren, Katie, Andy, Kendall, Amy and Michael.

Also, three brothers, Cecil Garvin, of Duncan, Jimmy Garvin and his wife, Jackie, of Muskogee, and Dan Garvin and his wife, Loretta, of Muskogee; one sister, Mary Jo Black, of Sapulpa; a special friend, Orville Free, of McAlester, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Mike Parker, Darren Garvin, Gary Garvin, Curtis Garvin, Dennis Vogle Jr. and Danny Kersh.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, and other relatives, including Dan and Ollie Garvin, Leatha Kersh and Leola Parker.
